- Case-Control Study
- An observational study comparing individuals with a specific outcome against similar individuals without it, examining differences in their prior exposure.
- Cohort Study
- An observational study following a group sharing a common exposure or characteristic forward in time to observe subsequent health outcomes.

- Observational Study
- A study in which the investigator observes outcomes without controlling which exposure or treatment participants receive, unlike an experimental study.

- Target Trial Emulation
- A framework designing an observational study to closely emulate a hypothetical randomised trial answering the same causal question, specified before analysis.
