Cost of illness
Cost-of-illness studies estimate the total cost a disease imposes on a health system or society, usually split into healthcare spending and lost production. Attributable cost estimation isolates the extra cost a disease or risk factor causes by comparing patients with similar people without it. The economic burden of antimicrobial resistance is one application.
